Rose City BNI Scholarship History
The Rose City BNI Scholarship Fund was created in 2009.
Our vision is to support furthering the education of local students who have demonstrated the ability to balance and excel in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service. Rose City BNI features chapter members who are top performers in their respective industries. The students who are selected are at the top of their class and already have extensive resumes in sports, arts, and community service. Criteria for the award are academic and community service. This award provides the chapter an opportunity to contribute to the future of students who have already proven successful.
The first award was a $500 scholarship to one student. The fund has grown in leaps and bounds since the inception of our Annual Golf Tournament in 2009. The Golf Tournament is our primary source of funding for the scholarship. In 2010, we presented two students with scholarships; an award of $2000 and a $500 award to the previous year’s winner. In 2012, we expanded the program to include a scholarship targeting adults continuing education in co-operation with Three Rivers Community College. Overall, we have awarded close to $20,000 to students in New London County.
In 2018, our program shifted focus to support local students toward completing their education and expanded to include applicants from local technical schools. The current awards are $1000 to high school or technical school students, $1000 to students currently enrolled in a local college program, and a major-specific award of $1000 to students at Three Rivers Community College in the business and related fields.
We are looking to further the education of students who exude the “Givers Gain” mentality. Our chapter values include being well rounded, hard work, integrity, passion, and community involvement. The students we select must emanate these values.
It is an honor for Rose City BNI to be able to contribute in some small way to these students who are the future of our community.
